We are people that live in the gray areas & strive to maintain the “both.” One elder is very involved in the Catholic church & also was in a same-sex marriage for several decades. She found balance living in the duality because both were extremely important to her. The coat’s rainbow stripes & lace overlay compete with patterns, with the lace even dulling the vibrancy of the fabric underneath. But, both exist & equally play a part in the makeup of the jacket.
this piece will be apart of an upcoming mini collection for pride
designed & sewn during a week long art residency at cedar north in collaboration with crosshatch for the long memory project
there will be an group show at commongrounds on june 15 to celebrate queer artists & the stories of queer elders in michigan – the residency held space for elders & artists to share stories & create art based on those memories / experiences
if sold, this piece will be shipped or available for pickup after the exhibition ends
